Patrol competition
Up until Jamboree 2026, monthly tasks will be shared. Each task can be solved by the patrols together with their leaders. The purpose of the tasks is to strengthen the group, train new skills, and prepare the patrol for the final competition, which will take place at Jamboree 2026.
There are 7–8 tasks in total leading up to the Jamboree.
It is not required to submit all tasks, but the more tasks a patrol completes and submits, the greater the advantage they will receive in points.
Scoring
- Each task is evaluated according to a scoring scale, and the patrol collect points this way.
- For participation the patrol recives 1 point.
- In the final competition, there will be variety of challanges.
- The patrol with the highest overall points will receive a generous trophy and prizes.
Submitting tasks
Tasks should be submitted to the program committee via email at johann@skatarnir.is
Submissions can be in the form of photos, videos and text, or other creative means.
It is important to show that the task was completed and who participated in it.
When submitting it is important to include:
- Patrol name
- Scout group
- Age group
Task 1 - The fire
The first task involves lighting the fire.
The patrol must demonstrate skills in cooking, fire safety, and fire-building.
Task Description
The patrol should:
demonstrate knowledge of different types of firewood — what wood is suitable for kindling, cooking, and heating.
explain and carry out appropriate fire safety measures and how to best ensure a safe fire environment.
build different types of fire lay structures, both for campfires and for cooking fires.
be able to whittle wood shavings for kindling and start a fire without using fire-starter fluids or other aids.
Age-based requirements:
Senior scouts and venture scouts demonstrate three different methods of lighting a fire without matches or a lighter.
Venture scouts prepare the fire site and explain the importance of airflow for effective combustion.
Tip for Leaders
Encourage the patrol to organize the task so that everyone has a role, from gathering materials to execution and presentation.
The goal is not just to light a fire, but to learn teamwork, prepare for the competition, and have fun.
